The Charlie Jones Foundation
There are 5 trustees together on the Charlie Jones Foundation; Donna & Dean (Charlie’s parents), Kaye (Charlie’s Godmother), Darryl and Chris; all special people who were apart of Charlie’s short life.
Charlie was only here for 142 days but he has touched so many people and their lives in such a massive way. We all felt we couldn’t just ‘not’ doing something in his memory and let this special little boy live on forever more. When Charlie died a lot of people wanted to do something other than send flowers so we set up his Just Giving page and in a week ended up raising the total 4 times.
The sponsored swim was arranged and it became a platform for this website.
We have two main principles associated with the ‘Charlie Jones Foundation’. The first being to raise money for the charity, ‘Friends of PICU’; Southampton PICU enabled us to have 142 days with Charlie, without them we would have only had a few days at most. The staff on the unit are fantastic and we could not fault them at all. Charlie also spent a lot of time on E1 Ocean Ward but there isn’t a facility as of yet to raise money for them.
Our second principle is to raise further awareness on Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. You can read more about this here.
We will retain approximately 20% of all monies raised to help fund future events but 80% of all funds will go direct to ‘Friends of PICU’. All monies raised in Charlie’s name are in his own reserved fund and Donna & Dean will be able to choose how they want the money spent in terms of equipment, furniture, ambulance, retrieval equipment etc…
We do hope that within the next 5 years we will be able to register as a charity ourselves.
